Stanley, the maker of popular cups, bottles, mugs, and other containers that have captured the cultural zeitgeist in recent years, has announced a significant recall of several of its mug products due to burn hazards. Here’s what you need to know about the Stanley mug recall and what to do if you have one of the affected products. What’s happened? Stanley is voluntarily recalling two of its popular products due to the possibility of a burn hazard. The two products are the Switchback and Trigger Action Travel Mugs in various sizes. The mugs are being recalled because it was found that the threads on their lids could shrink when exposed to torque and heat. If the threads shrink, the lid could detach during use, causing burns if the mugs contain hot liquid at the time. In total, about 2.6 million mugs are being recalled. What Stanley mugs are included in the recall? The Switchback and Trigger Action Travel Mugs in various sizes are included in the recall. According to a notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the mugs were available in several colors, including black, white, and green. Only certain sizes of the mugs with product identification numbers are included in the recall. Those are: Switchback, 12 ounces, with the product identification number 20-01437. Switchback, 16 ounces, with the product identification numbers 20-01436 and 20-02211. Trigger Action, 12 ounces, with the product identification numbers 20-02033, 20-02779, and 20-02825. Trigger Action, 16 ounces, with the product identification numbers 20-02030, 20-02745, and 20-02957. Trigger Action, 20 ounces, with the product identification numbers 20-02034 and 20-02746. The recalled Stanley mugs were sold at major retailers nationwide, including: Amazon.com Walmart Dick’s Sporting Goods Target They were also sold at other stores.  The recalled mugs were sold between June 2016 and December 2024. Depending on the model, the mugs cost between $20 and $50. Has anyone been injured by the faulty mugs? Unfortunately, yes. According to the CPSC notice, Stanley has received 91 worldwide reports of the mugs’ lids detaching during use. Sixteen of those reported came from the United States.  In total, Stanely has received reports of 38 burn injuries across the globe. Two of those injuries happened in the United States. In total, 11 people needed medical attention due to their injuries. What should I do if I have a recalled mug? You should immediately stop using the mug.   • Trigger Action, 20 ounces, with the product identification numbers 20-02034 and 20-02746.
